About

Built by a team that lives in Basecamp.

Assistant is a small, self-funded product — not a VC-backed startup chasing hockey-stick growth. We build what we need, ship often, and stay close to customers.

The origin

Like every Basecamp user, we loved how simple Basecamp is — and we kept hitting the same walls. No Kanban view. No way to tag things. No custom statuses. No custom fields. We'd hack around each limitation with naming conventions, emoji in titles, and external spreadsheets, and it never quite worked.

After the fifth time we tried to build a quick Chrome extension "just for our own team," we stopped hacking and built Assistant properly. It's the product we wished existed — a respectful layer on top of Basecamp that adds what's missing without fighting the way Basecamp works.

How we work

  • Ship small, ship often. We release every few weeks rather than big-bang quarters. The changelog is the proof.
  • Customer email is the roadmap. Every feature we ship started as a customer email. Reply to any of our emails — it goes to a human.
  • Don't break Basecamp. The extension adds UI; it never hides or replaces anything Basecamp already does. Uninstall and everything goes back to normal.
  • Your data is yours. We store the minimum we need. See the privacy policy for the full list. No tracking pixels, no ad networks, no data sales.

Not affiliated with 37signals

Basecamp is built by 37signals, an independent company we have nothing but respect for. Assistant is a third-party extension that uses Basecamp's public API under their Terms of Service. We're not funded by, endorsed by, or connected to 37signals.
